Jilli Blackwood, originator of the “Slash and Show” style, is an internationally known textile artist and designer with representation in many prestigious museums, corporate and private collections worldwide.
She specialised in Embroidered and Woven Textiles at the world-renowned Glasgow School of Art and graduated in 1986 with a First Class Honours in Art and Design.
Her textile and fibre work is wide-ranging and appears in many different guises, including fine art wall hangings, bespoke clothing, and home furnishings.
Jilli is renowned for her embroidery techniques and for combining different elements such as silk, leather, wool and linen to create a colourful, sensual, three dimensional surface. All materials are hand dyed in an inspirational process of artistic alchemy by this modern Scottish Colourist. The creative output is imaginatively demonstrated through the richness and variety of the surface textures in her embroidered, woven and digitally printed fabric collections.
It is impossible to categorize her work which blurs the boundaries between “Fashion & Art” and ”Art & Craft”. Jilli’s work is “alive” with colour and energy, a reflection of her personality and outlook on life.
